Reference
The height of a person is determined by the combination of genetics and environmental factors. The precise contribution from these two factors is complex. Some studies suggested that the contribution of the genetics factor is 60%80%. A child's height based on parental heights subjects to regression toward the mean. It means that very tall or short parents will likely to have taller or shorter child. But the child is likely to be closer to the average height than the parents. This calculator is base on this algorithm.
Other important factors that contribute to a child's grownup height include nutrition, health condition, sports activities, health and age of the mother during pregnancy, etc.
Infants and toddlers grow the fastest. The growth rate declines rapidly from birth to roughly age 2 and at a slow declining rate thereafter. The growth rate will increase to a second height during the pubertal growth spurt. On average, female growth trails off to zero at about 15 years old, and male to 18 years old.
In the United States the average height of male of age 20 or older is 1.763 m or 5 ft 9 1/2 in, female is 1.622 m or 5 ft 4 in.
